Intermodal transports

  • Behind the term intermodal -or also called combined transports- hides the combination of truck, railway, inland navigation vessel, offshore-vessel and airplane.

Concerning the combination of truck and railway the action turns out as follows:

The commodity is fetched with the truck at the sender/shipper and brought to the next container terminal.
There the swap body containers are transposed from the truck onto the railway and driven in the night jump to the receiver's nearest terminal.
At the receiving terminal the swap body containers are transposed again, however this time in reverse order, from the railway to the trucks and afterwards the commodity is driven to the receiver.

Advantages of this way of conveyance are:

    1. Savings of the due toll for trucks with more than 12 tons total weight,

    2. based on statutory prescriptions additional 4 tons can be transported,

    3. relief of the roads,

    4. more ecological than the transport only by trucks.
